The Terra 360 super charger from ABB charges electric cars with an output of up to 360 kW. It is to appear on the European market during this year.

The development of electric cars does not stop. Their offer is gradually expanding, their technology is improving, so the new electric cars will continue to run and they can charge their batteries faster. However, the accompanying infrastructure must also respond to this development. And it’s also evolving, as ABB’s latest charging stations now show.
The latest ABB Terra 360 model is becoming the fastest charging station for electric cars in the world. It can charge them with a charging power of 360 kW, which means, according to ABB, that it can fully charge any electric car within 15 minutes. Every three minutes, it can replenish juice for 100 kilometers.

These are certainly respectable parameters, but they have one and relatively fundamental hook. There is currently no car on the market that can charge with such power. Porsche Taycan manages to charge with a maximum output of 270 kW, Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 promise a maximum of 350 kW. Tesla’s Supercharger chargers are then designed for a maximum of 250 kW.
However, it is undoubtedly a plus that ABB already offers a solution that thinks ahead. It is certainly only a matter of time before an electric car manages to take advantage of the new charger. Accelerating the charging of electric car batteries is one of the car manufacturers’ priorities.
But the new ABB doesn’t just think about the highest possible charging power. The advantage is the fact that up to four cars can be charged on the new charger at the same time. That’s why ABB recommends installing it in petrol stations or shopping malls, where its compact dimensions don’t take up as much space. However, they can also be used on company premises for recharging the company fleet. In this case, it will allow either a fast charging of the car during the day or a slower charging of several cars overnight.
The stand can then include up to a 27 “screen on which, for example, commercials can be projected. The lighting system then shows the charge level as well as the remaining time until the end of optimal charging. Barrier-free access to such a station is increasingly important today.
The ABB Terra 360 charging station is practically ready for installation. It is expected to be available in Europe at the end of the year, and next year it may be available in the USA, South America or Asia.
ABB has long been involved in energy technology and is a long-term supplier of charging stations for electric vehicles. Since 2010, it has sold over 460,000 chargers for electric vehicles worldwide, in 88 markets, of which over 21,000 of them were DC chargers. Specifically in the Czech Republic, it has already installed 400 charging stations. By the way, the company then serves as the title sponsor for the Formula E Electric Monopost Championship.
