USB-C, also known as USB Type-C, has been on the market for some time, but USB-IF has now announced the latest, 2.1 specification, which expands the possibilities with a new Extended Power Range (EPR) mode. This allows for 240 watts of power transmission, which contrasts well with the previous 100-watt cap. All this is achieved by the new mode being able to transfer 5 A at a maximum of 48 V.
This, of course, will require new EPR-ready cables, and they will also include an electronic signal that can be read by the connected devices, so allowing 240 watts of power transmission is subject to a security check.
