The new aces of the Doosan handball team, Kim Yeon-bin (right back) and Kim Dong-wook (goalkeeper), who will continue the ‘Audu’ (Doosan will win anyway), are determined to achieve their 10th consecutive victory. Having been together since elementary school, they have established themselves as key players for Doosan, Korea’s strongest handball team, and have shown their determination to continue that reputation in the coming season.

Kim Yeon-bin and Kim Dong-wook have shown outstanding performance in their respective positions since joining the team in the 2019-20 season. Kim Yeon-bin led Doosan’s attack by scoring 142 goals in the Shinhan SOL Pay 23-24 Handball H League and ranked second in scoring, while Kim Dong-wook was selected as one of the best 7 in the 2022-23 season and is responsible for Doosan’s defense. The two players have now grown beyond Doosan into the spear and shield representing Korean handball.

Kim Yeon-bin said, “Of course, the goal is to win, but since the other teams’ strengths have improved evenly, I honestly don’t think there will be more wins than last season,” and emphasized that although difficult trials are expected, there will be no problem in achieving 10 consecutive wins. On the other hand, Kim Dong-wook expressed his ambition to achieve 10 consecutive wins with better results than last season, saying, “I am greedy, but I would like to win about 20 games.”

Kim Dong-wook is also showing his desire for the individual title and is continuing intensive training to help lead the team to its 10th consecutive victory. He received special guidance from coach Park Chan-young, who transformed from a playing coach to a formal coach, and said, “I personally trained with a focus on agility and quick development,” and said that he sweated more than anyone else last summer to achieve better results.

Since Doosan won the championship every year, to the point where a new word was coined, ‘Udu’, the goal of other teams was naturally set to ‘Overthrow Doosan.’ Kim Yeon-bin selected Hanam City Hall and Kim Dong-wook selected Incheon Urban Development Corporation as a target for next season, expressing concern over the increase in the power of both teams.

Kim Yeon-bin expressed caution about Hanam City Hall, saying, “It’s difficult because there are a lot of young players,” and “I think they might be harmed by their youth.” On the other hand, Kim Dong-wook said, “I think Incheon Urban Development Corporation will be more difficult than Hanam City Hall,” and mentioned the history of Incheon Urban Development Corporation, which has many senior players.

The two players, who have been working out together for over 15 years, agreed about the newly launched H-League, saying, “I hope there will be more teams for the development of handball.” They united together with the determination to repay the support of their fans.

Kim Dong-wook said, “The sound of the crowd cheering gives me more strength. “Fans of other teams may not like it, but our fans want us to win, so we will work hard to win without any upsets this year,” he pledged. Kim Yeon-bin also asked fans for their support, saying, “I will try my best to live up to expectations and win this season, so if you come to the gym and support me hard, I will repay you greatly.”
