The new Škoda Popular Monte Carlo is a futuristic roadster that is not going to be produced

The original Popular Monte Carlo was created in 1936 as a racing special for the Monte Carlo Rally. As the car with the Pohl – Hausman crew succeeded in the competition, it was the second in its category, the carmaker decided to take advantage of the success and immediately prepared a road design. Those in Mladá Boleslav produced a total of seventy pieces with coupe and roadster bodies.

The Škoda Auto Museum is currently preparing a renovation for the roadster after the coupe. He was the inspiration for the designer Lyudmila Slavov, who created a modern incarnation, but it exists only in graphic form.

The exterior is very aerodynamic to look at, but it has to combine the elegance of the original, the challenge is said to be a typical mask. “I tried different vertical configurations that would be closer to the original, but such an arrangement is a bit problematic for cars today, so I ended up on a different path,” describes his bow concept, where the grille grille moves further into the headlights area, creating similar effect to the original.

“The interior of the original roadster is elegant and practical, I see continuity to this day. Functionality, practicality, elegance and purity are still our basic principles today, ”says the designer.

Popular had a speedometer located in the middle of the dashboard, in the sketches of the concept appears in the form of a hologram. There were storage compartments on the sides, and the designer designed modern displays in their place.

Behind the seats under the glass cover are two racing helmets. “I was wondering if I should put two child seats here and make the car a little more practical, following the example of the serial convertibles of the time, but in the end, the sports side won for me,” says a designer from Bulgaria. He has lived in the Czech Republic for over twenty years, and has been working in the Škoda Auto design team for the last three years.
