In the new generation, the Škoda Fabia has relied on solid construction and modern driving assistants. This was fully reflected in the Euro NCAP safety assessment.

Euro NCAP has released the latest set of its traditional crash tests. This time, the fourth generation of the Škoda Fabia also appeared among the evaluated cars. She recorded an excellent result, Fabia takes the full number of five stars from the Euro NCAP crash tests.
In adult protection, Fabia received 85% of the possible points. Therefore, only trifles were criticized. Perhaps only the restriction of the passenger’s deflection in a side impact was assessed as extreme. The Fabia lacks a center airbag in the front, which would prevent the crew from moving in a side impact.
However, crew protection in the event of a frontal impact is good or adequate, as is a side impact. Fabia will provide a similar level of security for characters of different types. Cervical spine protection in the event of a rear-end collision is good at the front and rear. Another plus is the more advanced eCall, which manages to automatically alert rescue services in the event of an accident.
Fabia was also positively evaluated in the area of child passenger protection. Only in the case of a frontal impact did the limit protection of the manikin simulating a six-year-old child show. The head protection of the ten-year-old manikin in the event of a side impact was also evaluated in the same way.
The front passenger seat airbag can then be switched off to anchor the rear-facing car seat. The car clearly informs the driver when the airbag is deactivated. All types of car seats for which the Fabia is designed can then be properly installed inside.

Pedestrian protection was also praised, with only the traditional space at the A-pillars and the lower edge of the windscreen less difficult to protect pedestrians. The car also earned points for automatic braking, which recognizes not only other vehicles, but also pedestrians or cyclists. At the same time, the system responded adequately in all tests performed (even in the dark), when in most cases it was able to avoid a collision, or at least mitigate its consequences. Other monitored electronic assistants were also evaluated decently.
“We are proud that since 2008 all new Škoda cars have received the highest possible ratings after their launch. The new Fabia is the second model in a series to receive this rating after tightening conditions. By switching to the MQB A0 platform, Fabia offers for the first time many safety and assistance systems known from higher-end cars, which also increase the safety of this popular model, ”comments Johannes Neft, Member of the Board of Management of Škoda Auto responsible for technical development.
The Fabia was helped to achieve a decent result by, for example, the offer of nine airbags – for the first time in history, this model offers a driver’s knee airbag and rear side airbags on request. Among the electronic assistants, it is necessary to mention, for example, the Assisted Driving 2.0 set, which combines adaptive cruise control, lane driving assistance and traffic sign recognition, which enables automatic support for longitudinal and transverse driving. However, the rigid body using almost 80% of high-strength steel components is undoubtedly also a plus.
