It is not allowed to stay with a dog on the playgrounds in Bergen, even if it is on a leash. The exception is that the dog can accompany the owner on a walk through a playground where it is natural for the walk to go through. Then the dog should always be on a leash.
If the playground is fenced and has only one gate, you are not allowed to enter with a dog. These rules also apply to kindergartens and schoolyards.
The background for this provision is that children should experience it as safe to play in these areas.
If you want to let your dog go, you can use Bergen municipality’s three dog air farms. You will find these at Tveitevannet, at Tennebekk and at Liavatnet in Åsane.

The dog owner is responsible
Kristin Madsen Klokkeide is head of the Section for nature and environmental management in Bergen municipality.
– Unfortunately, we are familiar with this issue through inquiries. In addition to the fact that it is illegal to let their dogs there, it is also very uncomfortable for those who play in the areas to find feces from dogs there, she says.
Klokkeide says that playgrounds have been established for children to play freely, without being afraid of stray dogs.
She says that dog owners must familiarize themselves with the rules for keeping dogs, and that they are obliged to follow this. The Urban Environment Agency signs the playgrounds, so that it is clear which rules apply.
