The new cultural programme at the Circo de Marte theatre in Santa Cruz de La Palma will kick off on Friday 6 September with the play ‘The Munich Student Manifesto’, which tells the story of “the white rose”, an anti-Nazi resistance group formed by students from the university of this German city during World War II.

La Sastrería Teatro, the resident company of this century-old cultural space in the capital of La Palma, is premiering this show under the direction of Carlos de León with text by Sergio Hidalgo, for which a second performance will be offered on Sunday 8 September. Tickets can be purchased both at the box office and on the website www.entradasatualcance.com, from 5 euros.

This commitment to local talent marks the start of the programme designed by the Department of Culture of the Santa Cruz de La Palma City Council, coordinated by Alberto Perdomo, which will offer various proposals throughout the year in the performing arts, music, cinema, humour and conferences, among others.

Thus, for the month of September, the Reíslas Festival lands at the Circo de Marte theatre with the show ‘¿Viniste? ¡Qué atrevida!’, by the Canarian comedian Omayra Cazorla on Friday 13th and on Sunday 15th with the amazing ‘Viaje con nosotros’ by Comandante Lara & Cía, whose tickets are already on sale on the platform www.entradasatualcance.com, at the price of 18 and 22 euros respectively.

On Saturday, September 21, the XXI edition of Tensamba, the largest international festival of Brazilian culture, arrives in Santa Cruz de La Palma, with the unique voice and talent of Erico Moreira, the artist nominated for a Latin Grammy for his work ‘Dentro de Matrix’. With a repertoire of more than 100 original songs, this artist projects the new Brazilian composition in his different tours. Like the rest of the shows, tickets are already available at the price of 7 euros at the box office and on the platform www.entradasatualcance.com.

The culmination of the theatre programme in this space will be on Friday 27 September with the 2RC Teatro company with its show ‘Como chispa de cañón’, a thrilling pirate story inspired by the history of the Canary Islands in the 16th century told in the style of the Golden Age (tickets 7 euros at www.entradasatualcance.com)

Other cultural spaces and proposals for September

These will not be the only activities planned for this month in Santa Cruz de La Palma, as on Saturday 7 September the Papiro bookstore is holding a literary event with free admission at 12:00 noon under the title ‘Elective Affinities’ with Elba Pedrosa and Ricardo Hernández Bravo.

The third edition of the storytelling cycle La Palabra Contada returns after the summer break to meet with its more adult audience on Friday, September 13 at 7:00 p.m. at Quinta Verde with Isabel Cabrera.

‘Tajadre sings to La Palma’ on Friday 20 September at 8.30pm in the Plaza de España in a charity concert to benefit Cáritas with tickets at 5 euros, while the Cine Chico theatre will offer the show ‘Fuera de Broma’ by Isabel Rey on Monday 23.

Programming for the whole year

The Culture Department of the Santa Cruz de La Palma City Council has been working on the annual programme with the aim of bringing the performing arts closer to audiences of all ages, “with an offer where quality prevails over quantity,” explains the councillor responsible for the area, Alberto Perdomo.

Thus, in October a new edition of the International Clown Festival (FIC) will be held and the third edition of the Festival of Visual and Performing Arts (FAVE) of Santa Cruz de La Palma from October 9 to 13, together with a highly anticipated performance by Los Sabandeños at the Circo de Marte theatre.

This cultural space will host in November the works “Colacerdo” and “Do re gi ra sol” included in the MARES program developed by the Canary Islands Institute for Cultural Development of the Government of the Canary Islands, as well as the Noches de Humor cycle with monologues by Charlie Pee and Darío Orsi at the Cine Chico theater.

The December agenda is packed with proposals with initiatives such as the farewell to the Noches de Humor cycle with Ignasi Tatavull at the Chico cinema theatre; the show “Siento ocho” by comedian Kike Pérez, at the Circo de Marte theatre; the Anime Festival and the play “El Rey Solitario” also at this century-old theatre within the MARES programme.
