The new plan of “Latvijas pasta” envisages maintaining more departments

It is expected that those postmen and branch operators whose workplaces will be closed will be offered a job elsewhere or retraining. This is especially relevant for workers of pre-retirement age.

According to Mārtiņš Liepiņš, Head of Departments and Delivery of “Latvijas pasta”, the plan foresees that there will be approximately 120 departments. The criteria for where the departments will remain and why have been revised. According to him, the coverage of departments will be more even, and there will be no districts without post offices, big cities without post offices.

LTV reports that the plan has been accepted by the Ministry of Transport. Although there is talk of perhaps preserving 120 departments, it is known for sure that 116 will remain. However, “Latvijas pasts” cannot yet say how many employees will lose their jobs.

Until the end of the week, negotiations will continue with partners – press publishers in Riga and regions, Latvian Association of Municipalities (LPS), pension payers.

The plan for closing departments also provides for negotiations with municipalities. Next week, “Latvijas pasts” plans to meet with the ministries of the sector and agree on the next course of action.

TVNET already reported that “Latvijas pasts” planned to close 105 out of 176 post offices this year, but this reorganization plan was stopped.
