The new park of Finca San Francisco makes more than 5,000 meters available for public use

The mayor, Joaquín Villanova, inaugurates this municipal space located between the Cortijos del Sol and Los Manantiales urbanizations. The garden offers numerous botanical and decorative attractions and sets a sustainability trend for future green areas

Yesterday, Friday afternoon, the new park of Finca San Francisco, located next to Supermercado Día, was inaugurated. It is a landscaped area that will set a trend for the future in the way of recovering public green spaces in Alhaurín de la Torre, for its leafiness, respect for native species and the existence of high-quality botanical and decorative elements. Many groups, residents of the area and members of the Municipal Corporation wanted to attend the premiere of this place of recreation, located in the Southeast sector of the town.

The Department of Operational Services of the City Council, with the collaboration of the Delegation of Large Works, has worked in recent months on a comprehensive intervention on a 5,000-meter plot of land located between the Cortijos del Sol and Los Manantiales urbanizations. Said work has resulted in a large public garden with numerous plant and construction attractions and a concept of sustainable and respectful recovery with the existing grove, which received numerous praise among the attendees, since, in addition, it increases the network of green areas local public.

The execution of the works has had an approximate cost of 120,000 euros and they have had the fitting of decorative elements such as arches, a large fountain, a large pergola with wooden beams and even an original imitation water well. The remodeling of the entire space has required previous clearing work, cleaning of pruning remains, lowering of surfaces and installation of electricity connections, manholes and water pipes.

The mayor, Joaquín Villanova, announced that they want to work on an expansion next year and on closing the park at night, like the rest of the larger parks to avoid vandalism. The first mayor assured that this model of recovery of garden areas in urbanizations and neighborhoods has the objective of regenerating degraded spaces and integrating them for public use, with clean, sustainable and resistant materials. Villanova announced that this project will also be applied soon in the Torresol urbanization.

As it will be remembered, this garden of the so-called Hacienda San Francisco is about 20 years old and was lacking a comprehensive action, since in 2015 only the 1,400-meter area closest to the urban crossing was improved, in what was a first phase of a project that is now being completed. Those improvements consisted of the construction of paths, the creation of pilasters decorated with colored stones, and the pruning and rearrangement of the trees. At that time, it was decided to leave in the center a centennial carob tree of great importance in the urban landscape, as well as a group of olive and ficus trees.
