The New Opel Corsa: Bold Design, Innovative Technology, and Efficient Performance

The new Opel Corsa will be here already this year – even bolder, more emotional, even more intuitive to use. With completely new electric and hybrid drive technologies, Opel will take its traditionally strong offering in the small car segment to the next level.

The new Corsa impresses with a completely new design, including the brand-specific Opel visor at the front and a clearly visible model name written in Opel font on the tailgate. Thanks to the latest technology, driving the new Corsa is like a relaxing experience.

Optionally, it can be equipped with a fully digital front panel built on the dedicated Qualcomm Technologies Snapdragon Cockpit platform and includes a new, intuitive infotainment system with a 10-inch color touchscreen.

The adaptive Intelli-Lux LED® matrix lights, which prevent blinding of other drivers and which the Corsa got as the first small class car already in 2019, work even more precisely – they now consist of 14 separate LED elements.

High technologies can also be found under the hood of the bestseller in the small car class. The Corsa Electric is now equipped with a more powerful electric motor and an improved battery that enables a range of 402 kilometers (according to WLTP) after a full charge. The other power units are also a real novelty – the Corsa is the first Opel model that will be available with a 48-volt hybrid system.

“The Opel Corsa has been a bestseller for more than 40 years. For the last two years it was the best-selling small car in Germany, and in 2021 it was the best-selling new car in the United Kingdom. Such success is a testament to our successful work and motivates us to keep doing better. The new Corsa is even more more modern, even more emotional and even better. With its stunning design, top-of-the-line technologies and new zero-emission technologies, we want to inspire customers – to show them what you can get from a small car these days,” says Opel CEO Florians Hitl.

Bold, clean, full of emotion: a new design with an Opel visor

Perfect proportions and precision in even the smallest details are combined in the bold and clean design of the Opel Corsa. Designers have made the small class bestseller even more modern and stylish. The most striking design feature is the unique face with the Opel visor, which adorns all new models of the brand.

The black visor that stretches across the entire front of the car merges the grille, LED lights and the centrally placed Opel Blitz badge. On the other hand, the air vents at the bottom of the bumper are larger and more noticeable than before, visually pushing the new Corsa to the road.

The side view is also surprising. The unusual rear pillar gives the impression that the roof, which is black on certain trim levels, is levitating above the car. The rear of the car is characterized by clear lines and the Corsa lettering, which is now located in the center of the tailgate – just like the limited edition model Opel Corsa 40, where it was seen for the first time a few months ago.

Intuitive, with an emphasis on essentials: the new interior

Thanks to a series of new features, the interior of the Corsa has a modern feel that contributes to a great feeling of well-being. This is due to new seats, as well as a new gear lever and a newly designed steering wheel. However, the main attribute, both visually and technically, is the optional fully digital front panel, which includes both the instrument and infotainment system.

The Snapdragon Cockpit platform, developed by Qualcomm Technologies, has advanced graphics, multimedia, computer vision and artificial intelligence capabilities. Now it provides the ability to react according to the situation, constantly adapt and improve according to the wishes of the driver and passengers.

Like the latest generation Astra, the Corsa is also designed according to the principle – Detox to the max. The navigation offers connected services, recognizes the voice command “Hey Opel” and is constantly updated via the mobile data network. The 10-inch touchscreen of the navigation and multimedia system and the driver data display are clearer than before, so information can be perceived in fractions of a second. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functions in Corsa’s new multimedia system can be used for the first time without a physical connection to a smart device, while a special pad is used for wireless charging of smartphones.

Even more precise: Intelli-Lux LED® matrix lights with 14 LED elements

Since 2019, the adaptive Intelli-Lux LED® matrix lighting is proof that the latest innovations of the small class Corsa are accessible to everyone. Engineers are constantly improving this system, and the Corsa is a clear beneficiary of this – the new headlights now have 14 instead of just eight individually controllable LED elements. It provides brightness worthy of stadium floodlights and even more precisely excludes certain sectors so as not to dazzle other road users.

The new Corsa is also equipped with many other modern support systems that allow the driver to feel more relaxed while driving and maneuvering. For example, a new, high-resolution panoramic rearview camera, adaptive cruise control, speed limiter, side monitoring and pedestrian recognition. Also, if necessary, the driver will be warned about a potential frontal collision and the car will automatically activate the emergency brakes.

More powerful and efficient: Corsa Electric with improved battery and new electric motor

Opel already has 12 electrified models in its range, but by 2028 it will become a fully electric brand in Europe. The Corsa once also became a pioneer of the democratization of electric drive in the Opel portfolio, so it is not surprising that in 2020 the winner of the Golden Steering Wheel was the Corsa-e. The new Corsa Electric takes everything to another level – with wider options, a more powerful electric motor and an improved battery, as well as a longer driving distance.

The Corsa Electric will be offered with two drive systems: it can be chosen with a 100 kW/136 hp electric motor and a range of up to 357 km, or with the new 115 kW/156 hp electric motor and an improved battery, which according to the WLTP allows for up to 402 kilometers. The Corsa Electric is not only very efficient, but also dynamic. Pleasant driving is ensured by the maximum torque of 260 Nm of the electric motor, which is available to the driver from the first touch of the accelerator pedal.

When it’s time to charge the Corsa Electric, it can be done very quickly. With the fast DC charger, the battery can be charged from 20 to 80 percent in 30 minutes.

The newcomers to the engine range also combine high responsibility towards the environment with driving pleasure. For the first time, Opel will offer the option to switch to 48-volt system hybrids that develop 74 kW/100 hp and 100 kW/136 hp and work in combination with a new dual-clutch automatic transmission. The range of highly efficient internal combustion and electric motors will be supplemented by new hybrid engines in the near future, thus once again confirming the brand’s consistent progress towards electrification.
