He’s not French!
The unveiling of the new Opel Astra took place on Thursday in Prague. The carmaker’s representatives emphasized several times that it is definitely not just an otherwise cut copy of the new one Peugeot 308. Of course, both cars are technically connected, but the Germans allegedly tuned the platform to their image. They came up with their own shock absorber settings, adjusted the rear axle stabilizer, wheel suspension, steering settings and stops. The car should now drive in typical German, whatever we have to imagine.
However, the new Opel Astra cannot be denied the pursuit of striking design with its front grille, which is now typical of all the brand’s new models. The car is also highlighted by more bright colors. It is clear that younger drivers will finally be attracted behind the wheel. The cabin is designed at the usual level of the brand, looks spacious and also offers a decent luggage space – it has a volume of 422 liters. In addition, Opel “cleaned up” the dashboard. It gives a futuristic impression, but it is clear. The air conditioning control is divided between the buttons and the display. The steering wheel with its unusually thin lower arm looks like it is from the exhibition concept.
It is obvious that the new Astra will attract even those for whom the small steering wheel of the Peugeot 308 is an insurmountable problem. For many other drivers, however, he is a very interesting representative of the lower middle class, who is exactly 100,000 crowns cheaper than his main competitor Volkswagen Golf. If price is a crucial argument, he has a chance to pull a decent portion of drivers into his enemy.
