Opel has launched road tests of the new generation five-door Astra L hatchback. Spy photos from the tests were published by Motor1. According to the publication, the premiere of the car will take place in the second half of this year. The production of the Astra L will be organized at the brand’s plant in Rüsselsheim (Germany).
In the spy photos, the hatchback is covered in unusual yellow camouflage. However, we can say that the car will receive significant design changes. In particular, the exterior of the car will be made in accordance with the new corporate style Opel Vizor, a distinctive feature of which is the narrow LED front optics, visually combined with the radiator grille.
This design language was demonstrated for the first time with the GT X concept, which was introduced in 2018. It is also noticeable that the car in the photos has two fuel holes – one on each side of the body. It is possible that the photos show a hybrid modification of the new Astra.
According to unofficial data, the model will debut with two such versions at once – customers will be offered a rear-wheel drive hatchback and a model with all-wheel drive with a system power of about 300 horsepower. The second option will have three units – one internal combustion engine and two electric motors.
The innovation will be built on the EMP2 platform. The next generation Peugeot 308 is made on this chassis, which will be presented on March 18. Later, the new Opel Astra station wagon will debut, which will receive a prefix in the name Sports Tourer.
