Patrik Kincl became the new MMA champion of the Oktagon organization in the middle weight, who defeated the holder of the temporary belt, Samuel Krištofič from Slovakia, 3-0 on points. The Oktagon 31 gala evening was watched by more than ten thousand spectators at the O2 arena in Prague.
The favored Kincl had the first three rounds clearly on top, then Krištofič was more active, but the Czech fighter eventually won in all points judges.
“I think I had the match under control. In the last round I thought it was a headline, I’ll give it a bit of a sniff, but it was a great match,” said the 32-year-old Kincl, whom Kristoficic attacked significantly verbally before the duel. “Paradoxically, it helped me. Originally it was a match that I tended to underestimate slightly, but his speech encouraged me to do my best in training,” he admitted.
Krištofič admitted defeat after the fight. “He was better. I knew he would not want to fight in position and I am upset that I did not deal with it because we were preparing for it,” said the Slovak fighter.
In the main pre-match of the evening, the Dutchman defeated Losene Keit on the points of Ronald Paradaiser from Slovakia and won the provisional title of the organization in lightweight.
The Lithuanian Naglis Kanišauskas scored a record fast in the O2 arena, as he defeated Jakub Běle after only thirteen seconds. In the first round, the duel with Zdeněk Polívka from the Frenchman Alex Lehoré, as well as the Slovak Vlasto Čepo duel with the Brazilian Alexandre Silva or Jakub Bahník ended the match with the British Jonathan Cucciniell.
The leading Czech MMA fighter Lucie Pudilová was originally supposed to present herself at the event. After her Brazilian rival Priscila de Souza failed to meet the weight limit, the match of the only Czech woman who introduced herself in the UFC world organization was canceled.
