Although Mitsubishi presented the fourth generation of the Outlander model in the fall of 2021, this new product will not reach Europe until next year.
And it will probably arrive exclusively with a plug-in hybrid drive. The automaker is talking about the second generation of a plug-in hybrid system with two electric motors providing all-wheel drive.
The plug-in hybrid Outlander is already on sale in the United States. There, the car relies on a 2.4-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine and two electric motors, providing all-wheel drive. The maximum combined power of the system is 185 kW, the peak torque is 450 Nm.
An important part is also a battery with a capacity of 20 kWh, which should ensure a range of up to 61 kilometers on electricity. Mitsubishi further highlights that the battery can be charged from zero to 80% in less than 40 minutes on a suitable charger.
According to Mitsubishi Motors Europe, the new Outlander PHEV will be developed for Europe, so we wonder what will change compared to the North American or Japanese market versions. We dare to say that the “composition” of the drive will remain the same.
The company promises the latest assistance and information technology and an interior combining “a high level of quality, functionality and Japanese craftsmanship”. If this is true, we will be able to see for ourselves in 2024.
For the sake of completeness, we will add that the three previous generations of the Outlander model have sold over half a million cars in Europe since their launch in 2003. And as for the plug-in hybrid, since the start of sales in Europe in 2013, Mitsubishi has sold about 200,000 units on the old continent.
