The new Mercedes-AMG SL is really around the corner. He will perform next week

This time, the AMG division is in charge of developing the latest generation of the famous SL roadster. At the same time, it is clear in advance that the car is facing an extensive intergenerational transformation.

The Roadster SL has been a traditional part of the Mercedes range for several years. Around the corner is the seventh generation of this sports-tuned car, which will be officially introduced on Thursday, October 28 at 16:00 Central European Time. It will be possible to watch the premiere online, via the manufacturer’s website. However, we already know a lot about the new SL before the official unveiling.

The novelty will be officially called the Mercedes-AMG SL, as the car is being developed by the AMG division for the first time in history. At the same time, it underwent an extensive intergenerational transformation to support the typical sporting character of this roadster. At the same time, however, the novelty should be comfortable for everyday driving.

The basis will therefore be a completely new MSA architecture (Modular Sports Architecture), which combines aluminum alloy with composites, as well as steel with magnesium, to ensure the highest possible rigidity of the structure and at the same time the lowest possible weight. In the future, it will also be used by the successor to the Mercedes-AMG GT.

In addition, the new design is adapted to the use of state-of-the-art technology. This means in particular that, for the first time in SL’s history, Mercedes-AMG is counting on the use of electrified engines. The basis is to be a mildhybrid six-cylinder, the highlight of which is probably an eight-cylinder plug-in hybrid. All-wheel drive will also be available.

Compared to its predecessor, however, the overall concept of the car will also be different. The new SL will use the 2 + 2 cab configuration, for the first time since 1989. In addition, it will receive an electrically operated canvas roof, which the SL will use for the first time since 2001 – since then all SLs have had a fixed folding roof.

Mercedes then let us look into the cab of the car as well. It will use ideas from the S-Class, so let’s expect a combination of a digital instrument panel with a 12.3 “screen and a vertically oriented, 11” multimedia system display on the center panel.

Despite many changes, however, one thing remains the same: the new Mercedes-AMG, like its predecessor, will be manufactured at the Bremen plant.
