The 240,000 inhabitants of Sambre Avesnois will soon have their new hospital, awaited for twenty years, the current one partly dating from the 1950s.
A very bright building with 80% of single rooms including twenty which can be doubled, in case of tension. The technical platform is making a leap, particularly in medical imaging thanks to a public-private partnership, the establishment will be able to offer two scanners and an MRI, with perhaps a second MRI. And director Eric Girardier also welcomes the arrival of nuclear medicine
It is still quite extraordinary as a poster for the establishment, it allows to have an essential tool for the treatment of cancers, the indicators in this field on the territory are extremely poor, it is a real plus for the support for the population
Critical care and intensive care services are combined on the same floor with 12 intensive care beds which can be split into two units, and therefore isolate patients with Covid, for example.
Space problems already pointed out
On the top floor, the establishment now has its helipad, whereas until now the transfers for Lille were done by road in about fifty minutes and the most serious with a helicopter which landed on a stadium. There, it will be much more practical and comfortable for patients and teams, assures Dr. Rachid Dris, emergency manager at Maubeuge hospital, and vice-president of the establishment medical community: “there is no loss of luck”.
On the other hand, the doctor points to the elimination of thirty beds to promote the outpatient or the lack of space in the new hospital to ensure all consultations and to offer an internship for young doctors.
The director is aware of these issues. Meetings have already taken place and others will follow with the ARS and the agglomeration to find solutions.
The end of the work is scheduled for this summer, and after a whole logistical phase, before the relocation of services scheduled from October 18 for 15 days, with transfers planned upstream to other hospitals in the sector, particularly in Valenciennes.
The new hospital should bear the name of a known Maubeugeois. A staff consultation is underway to choose this name.
