The new management of the Olite Theater Festival announces a parity program – Artezblai


La Caja Flotante and Boga Boga are the Navarran companies selected to develop two work residences in Olite and Beire.

The twenty-third edition of the Olite Theater Festival will be held between July 15 and 31 with a new artistic direction, made up for the first time by two womenAne Pikaza and Maria Goiricelaya–, and a multidisciplinary program where there is room for music, dance and the circus, as well as theatre.

The Navarrese festival, which in 2022 will be held without the restrictions that have accompanied the last two editions due to the pandemic, will host a program where young artists and established figures from the national and international scene coexist, such as the actress Aitana Sanchez Gijon or the director Cesar Brietogether with an outstanding number of Navarran companies.

In total, Olite will offer 38 performances of the 22 scheduled shows. Of these, 11 have been created, written or directed by women; nine are from Navarre companies, 2 are international –from Bolivia and Mexico–, one of an inclusive nature and one in Basque focused on the family audience. In addition, the festival will host two artistic residences with two exhibitions each and several “Olite experiences”. Also, the playwright Paco Gamez will give the workshop ‘A stage inside the head. Theater writing laboratory’ and meetings will be held with artists and journalists, as well as with companies from Navarra.

The event also incorporates new spaces, such as the Ronda del Castillo (La Nevera) in Olite and the Parque del Conde in Tafalla, in addition to La Cava, the Olite Palace, the Tourism Office-Wine Museum, the Casa de Culture of Olite, the Plaza de Carlos III El Noble, the Ezpeleta Palace and the Lázaro Galdiano de Beire Cultural Center and the Tafalla Kulturgunea Cultural Center.

The Minister of Culture and Sports, Rebeca Esnaola; the artistic directors of the contest, Ane Pikaza and María Goiricelaya; the designer of the poster, Oier Zuñiga; and the director of the Cultural Action service of the Government of Navarra, Lorenzo García Echegoyen;, have presented this morning at Baluarte the program for the 23rd edition of the festival.

Pikaza and Goiricelaya have indicated that the programming of this edition, «look at all generations, all audiences and all the problems that shake our world. We want to make a difference, promoting the Navarran scene and positioning Olite among the major festivals both in Spain and internationally. Making it a parity and feminist space throughout its structure, promoting equality and embracing inclusion, claiming the artistic value of difference from normality«.
