The new location of the SPVG headquarters raises many questions

At the beginning of the week, after a vote indicativethe Gatineau city council rejected the location of the Center Robert-Guertin.

It was an amendment by Councilor Steven Boivin that finally stood out.

Mr. Boivin proposed to set up the new headquarters of the police de la Ville de Gatineau">SPVG on land on Boulevard de la Technologie, in the Hautes-Plaines district.

If the proposal turns out to be the best compromise according to the mayor, the fact remains that it raises a lot of questions.

Starting with the councilor for the district of Orée-du-Parc, Isabelle N. Miron, where the Boulevard de la Technologie is located.

Mrs. N. Miron had moreover voted against the amendment during the Committee of the Whole. The councilor wonders in particular about the consequences of a police headquarters in a neighborhood that she considers peaceful.

For her, it would have been necessary to hold public consultations beforehand in order to feel the pulse of the population.

I don’t necessarily think that’s bad news for the neighborhood. Where the shoe pinches is that we want to do things the right way. We want big projects in Gatineau, but we don’t always take the time to consult the population properlyshe states.

However, for her part, in a written declaration, the Mayor of Gatineau, France Bélisle, explained that it was premature to consult on a site when the board had not positioned itself, and it was planned to consult the stakeholders once the site was chosen.

The city council must decide once and for all on the new location on March 21. But, the Orée-du-Parc district councilor wants residents to be consulted by then.

before the Council of March 21, to be able, as I said, to make an informed decision because my role is to vote on behalf of my fellow citizens”,”text”:”I’m sorry (a public consultation) before the Council of March 21, in order to be able, as I said, to make an informed decision because my role is to vote on behalf of my fellow citizens””>It takes me (a public consultation) before the Council of March 21, to be able, as I said, to make an informed decision because my role is to vote on behalf of my fellow citizensadds Ms. N. Miron.

Another option to consider

Meanwhile, other citizens of Gatineau want the SPVG headquarters at 590 Gréber Boulevard to remain.

This is particularly the case of the Association of residents of Carrefour-de-l’Hôpital (ARQCH). In a resolution adopted at the beginning of the year, the members expressed concern over the decision of the municipal council to relocate the current headquarters.

Therefore, theARQCH intends to launch a petition to make its voice heard.

We are very very very disappointed that here it was not even considered[l’actuel quartier général].[…] We’re working hard to get the petition out by Monday. Why are we not considered, then why don’t they want to stay here?comments Monique Hudon, President of l’ARQCH.

Moreover, the municipal councilor of Carrefour-de-l’Hôpital, Olive Kamanyana, still cannot explain why the Gatineau sector would no longer have a police station.

There’s a reason there’s a job in Aylmer, there’s a reason there’s a job in Buckingham, Hull is going to have one. there is still Gatineau center, so why are we not entitled? […] I haven’t seen evidence that showed me this was the wrong site at this location she says in conclusion.
