The election of the new council of Klaipėda University (KU) has ended, its results are announced. The new KU council will officially start its term of office this year. m. on April 26.

4 members of the KU academic community, representing different departments, were elected to the Council for a five-year term– prof. Dr. Vytautas Juščius, Head of the Department of Economics, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities; prof. Dr. Loreta Kelpšaitė-Rimikeė, senior director of the Institute of Marine Research. researcher; prof. Dr. Arvydas Martinkėnas, professor of the Department of Medical Technologies, Faculty of Health Sciences; Assoc. Dr. Silva Pocytė, head of the Institute of History and Archeology of the Baltic Region. researcher. The two chosen ones KU council members – prof. Dr. V. Juščius, prof. Dr. A. Martinkėnas – also belonged to the outgoing Council.

Vytautas Lygnugaris – general director of UAB “Limarko”, chairman of the board of the Lithuanian Shipowners’ Association, was elected to represent associated business structures in the new Council; for regional institutions – Eglė Stonkė, executive director of the Klaipėda Region Association of Municipalities “Klaipėda Region”; for social partners – Arnoldas Šileika, general director of AB “Vakarų laivų gykalyka”.

The KU student union delegated the president of this organization, Aidas Čurova, to the Council, and Andrius Sutnikas, the coordinator of the Lithuanian maritime cluster, the head of the development of Klaipėda Science and Technology Park, became the representative of the alumni.

At the first meeting, Council members will have to elect a chairman from among themselves. The regulation stipulates that a person belonging to the staff of the University or a student cannot become one. The KU Council, which worked for the last five years, was headed by Klaipėda City Mayor Vytautas Grubliauskas.

The collegial governing body of KU – the Council – approves the vision and mission of the University, the strategic activity plan submitted by the rector, considers and approves the plans for restructuring the structure of the University submitted by the rector, determines the procedure for organizing the election of the rector through a public tender, elects, appoints and dismisses the rector, determines The procedure for managing, using and disposing of University funds and assets, considers and approves the most important decisions related to this, takes care of support for the University and performs other functions.
