This Friday, December 9, the new Italian jazz group “XY Quartet” will perform in the 1st studio of the Latvian Radio.
“XY Quartet” is an unusual musical group that approaches jazz and music in general from a very mathematical point of view, and whose members like to experiment with different sound formulas. For more than ten years, saxophonist Nicola Fazzini, bassist Alessandro Fedrigo, vibraphonist Saverio Tasca and drummer Luca Colussi have been solving musical formulas together. Four albums have been released so far and many concerts have been held in different countries around the world.
The principles of the structure of the new Italian jazz have created great interest among the masses of jazz listeners, so new surprises are expected from saxophonist Nicola Fazzini aka X and Alessandro Fedrigo aka Y, who will certainly not miss the group’s concert in Riga.
“XY Quartet” will perform here in the autumn concert series “Art of Riga Jazz” of the festival “Rīgas Ritmi 2022”, intended for musically passionate listeners who appreciate high-quality artistic performance and new nuances of musical sound, and also want to meet great internationally recognized musicians in a more intimate atmosphere.
“There are not as many innovative musicians in the jazz world as we would like,” says Māris Briežkalns, artistic director of the “Art of Riga Jazz” concert series. “The project curated by Nikolas and Alessandro fits perfectly into the ideological frame of our concert series, because, as usual, we are always looking for new musical surprises to offer to the thirsty audience right here in Riga. Also, the legendary first studio of Latvian radio is as if it was created to enjoy such musical surprises down to the finest nuances”.
