After around two years of construction, the new “old” VHS Hietzing is back at Hofwiesengasse 48 – with lots of light, its own charm and completely new technical equipment.
The Tooth of time does not stop at education. This was also evident in the VHS Hietzing building, which was built in 1974. As part of the “Renovation and investment program for Vienna adult education centers 2030“ The location at Hofwiesengasse 48 was therefore renovated over the last two years.

The renovated building was not only Fire protection and accessibility brought up to date. With lots of light, charm and new equipment, the VHS now offers everything for a modern and comfortable course operation.

Mayor Michael Ludwig: “The Viennese adult education centres are more than just educational institutions, they are places of encounter and social interaction. This has been achieved excellently here. I congratulate you on the beautiful building.” Now the pioneering result has been presented and awarded with a ceremony to the public and its use.
Sustainable and forward-looking
As part of the general renovation, many rooms were redesigned or expanded. Teaching kitchen will offer space for cooking classes and also for Exercise classes Better facilities are now available with new changing rooms and showers.
A new ventilation and cooling system ensures a pleasant room climate in the classrooms and, together with new, large windows in the corridor and the new peace and quiet provided by Double glazing a unique atmosphere and learning environment.

“The general renovation under the leadership of the City of Vienna’s construction and building management is groundbreaking, among other things, because it optimally combines education and sustainability. The building is now heated using air heat pumps and a new photovoltaic system feeds solar power into the grid, thereby reducing running costs,” says Deputy Mayor and Housing Councillor Kathrin Gaál a special feature of the VHS Hietzing.
Over 300 courses
As BV Nicholas Ebert with “Education knows no party color,” numerous guests from district and city politics were welcomed at the opening. First and foremost, Mayor Michael Ludwig said: “Successful. The long-time director said goodbye Robert StreibelHe is going into well-deserved retirement. He handed over his office to his successor Sylvia Kubawhich has a lot planned here. Under its new management, the Hietzing adult education center is offering around 300 courses in the fall semester, continuing the usual focus areas and offering some new course highlights.

“In the autumn, there will be cooking courses in our new kitchen, a literature course will encourage you to write, and there are also activities for parents and children such as fencing or hula hooping. We are breaking new ground with a diving taster course in cooperation with Dive Austria,” explains Sylvia Kubathe range of the program.
