The new head of the EWRC with a comment on gas and electricity prices after the moratorium – Economy

It is possible that the price of electricity will not increase at all after the moratorium falls. This was predicted by the new chairman of the EWRC Stanislav Todorov in the program “120 minutes” on BTV.

The main reason for the request to increase the price of electricity was the deficit in the electricity distribution companies, accumulated as a result of the increase in the price of electricity on the stock exchange, but the government adopted a compensatory mechanism for business in this regard, Todorov said.

This decision of the government was taken in order not to “pump inflation”. The Cabinet can continue this policy if it wishes and has enough profits from the power plants to cover these compensations, the EWRC chairman noted.

The work of the EWRC within its powers is to verify the price structure and the justification of the costs included in the pricing. This will be done within two weeks, so that consumers can be convinced that when the new price is accepted, it is the fair price they have to pay, “Todorov said.

On the issue of the price of heating, Todorov noted that it is formed by two components – the price of natural gas on world markets, on which some district heating companies depend, and how district heating companies are managed.

As an example, the head of the EWRC gave Toplofikacia Sofia, which he said should be profitable given its network and clientele, but is one of Bulgargaz’s biggest debtors.

According to Todorov, the free market best regulates prices, but how high the price of electricity is is relative, given that it is currently one of the lowest in Europe, but we do not feel it because of our low purchasing power.

Things are not looking good at Bulgargaz. Once the old management is released because of such deals, just when the new management enters, the new deals happen. I have no information who ordered these deals, but this is something that worries me, Todorov commented on the information about the company’s sale of surplus gas to Romania at low prices.

EWRC will check the deals of the new management of Bulgargaz, said Stanislav Todorov.

Stopping the export of electricity is possible only in the presence of force majeure, which does not currently exist. The outbreak of war can be considered as such, and in this case we can end it, because “obviously we must ensure the security of household consumers and critical industries,” Todorov said.

According to him, in such a situation there should be no sanction from the EC for violating market rules in the European Union.

Todorov also commented on allegations that he violated the Public Procurement Act while working for the American company AES, which manages the Maritza 1 TPP.

AES is a 100% private company and, as such, decides how to structure its activities, including how to buy goods and services from external contractors, “said Todorov, adding that he did not make these decisions alone.

According to him, an inquiry was made at the time whether AES should comply with the Public Procurement Act, to which it was replied that it was not mandatory for the company, but later, PFIA later issued a dissenting opinion.
