The elevator, named “Ascent”, is said to travel up to 369 meters along the outside of one of New York’s tallest skyscrapers. In addition, there are also glass boxes at a height of 324 meters that protrude from the Vanderbilt high-rise and reveal a view of Madison Avenue, which is hundreds of meters below. Both the elevator and the glass cases are part of the “Summit One Vanderbilt” project. This also includes the expansion of a four-story, 65,000-square-meter viewing platform at the top of the Vanderbilt, which will also feature a bar and several food stalls. Visitors can also stop by the Michelin-starred chef Daniel Boulud’s “Le Pavillon” restaurant. The design for the $ 3.3 billion project will be carried out by the office of the star architects from Snøhetta.
“New York City is set to be full of energy this fall, and Summit One Vanderbilt is an incredible addition to the attractions for both locals and visitors,” said Fred Dixon, president of NYC & Company tourism organization, in one Press release. The Summit One Vanderbilt including “Ascent” and “Levitation” is scheduled to open on October 21st.
