The traditional “off-road” version of the Alltrack is also included in the latest generation of the popular model.
The long-awaited premiere of the ninth generation VW Passat is already behind us. The popular model of the car manufacturer from Wolfsburg, which coincidentally celebrates 50 years this year, arrived only in a station wagon body with the traditional Variant designation.
Lovers of more “managerial” shapes will have to wait for the new generation of Škoda Superb, which was developed with the new Passat. It will retain both body variants. As a last resort, the electric model ID.7 will be an alternative in the VW world.
The narrowing of the bodywork portfolio is one of the many changes that occurred with the new generation. The new Passat has grown, is more modern, has a large touchscreen tablet and will no longer be produced in Germany, but in Bratislava.
We are impatiently waiting for one more version, about which the car company does not speak out loud, but it is counted in dreams. That version is the “cottage” Passat Alltrack. A graphic from the Kolesa website showed how a plastic version for the terrain with a higher ground clearance could look like.
Volkswagen knows that there are still a large number of customers who do not want an SUV, but are looking for models with higher ground clearance for comfort and safety. And that is exactly what the Passat Alltrack has always fulfilled. The costs of its implementation should be minimal due to the identical dimensions with the standard Passat Variant.
In terms of technology, the Passat Alltrack would certainly use the 2.0 TSI (195 kW) and 2.0 TDI (142 kW) engines paired with a seven-speed DSG transmission and all-wheel drive.
Opinions on the design of the new Passat generation are different. Most fans blame the designers for the dull front fascia, on the other hand, they praise the rear of the car and the interior, which looks more luxurious than ever. With plastic rims and “Alltrack” wheels, the new Passat doesn’t look bad at all. However, we still have to wait for the Passat Alltrack’s real appearance.
