The current Volkswagen Passat has been on the market since 2015, but a new one is already coming. It should come on the market in 2023, but only as a station wagon called Variant. The production of the current generation will take place until this summer.
The Volkswagen Passat has a really long history in the history of the brand, which should not end yet. It first appeared on the market in 1973, 48 years ago. It is now sold in the eighth generation (marked B8) and there are two body variants on offer: the classic four-door sedan and the five-door station wagon. But that will change next year, as the sedan will drop out of the menu.
The new, already ninth generation will bear the B9 designation and will appear on the market in 2023, which was confirmed to auto.cz magazine by David Valenta, a spokesman for the Czech importer of the Volkswagen brand. He also confirmed that the sedan body variant will disappear from the offer. And this is definitely interesting, because the development of the Passat is taking place at the same time as the new generation of the Škoda Superb, which should retain two body variants.
The new Škoda Superb will grow again, and it will also receive a completely redesigned interior
The eighth generation of the Volkswagen Passat will be produced in both body variants until July 2022. Even so, the sedan in the Czech Republic can no longer be put into production because the Czech production quotas are exhausted. It is therefore possible to withdraw only from stock at dealers.
The production of the new generation of the Volkswagen Passat will take place on the same line as the new generation of the Škoda Superb. Production is moves to the Bratislava factory Volkswagen, where until recently the city triplets Volkswagen up !, Škoda Citigo and SEAT Mii. The original factory in Emden, Germany, where the Passat is manufactured today, will be converted into the production of electric cars.
