In the future, Ford’s European commercial vehicle range should always offer at least one version of the model capable of at least partially emission-free operation. Which should also apply to the Ranger.

While in the US Ford is already successfully offering a hybrid version of its bestseller, the full-size F-150 pickup truck, there has long been speculation about the electrification of the smaller Ranger pickup truck. Now, however, a spokesman for Ford’s European dealership has shed some light on them.
In a statement to Car Expert, he mentioned that Ford’s European dealership plans to make the entire range of commercial vehicles at least partially capable of fully emission-free driving include the Ranger model. There is not much meaningful way to achieve this than to reach for plug-in hybrid technology.

Unfortunately, no one yet knows which power unit the plug-in hybrid Ranger will receive. Most often, however, there is talk of a 2.3-liter supercharged four-cylinder petrol engine, combined with a hybrid unit. System power could be around 360 horsepower and 680 Nm of torque.
So far, this is only speculation, but in the case of the European Ford, we have little reason to doubt their authenticity. The carmaker has previously announced that it wants to offer an emission-free variant for all its models by mid-2026, including electric cars and hybrids. In addition, since 2030, Ford wants to sell exclusively electric passenger models on the old continent.

However, the Ranger is a global model, which automatically raises the question of whether its plug-in hybrid version will look to other parts of the world. Ford has previously mentioned the growing popularity of electric cars and hybrids in Australia, where the Ranger is also quite popular. The US delegation declined to comment on the question of CNET colleagues as to whether the hybrid Ranger could be sold in the USA as well.
