It still smells new: at the Yves-Le Foll hospital in Saint-Brieuc, the outpatient surgery unit has just been redone.
At the entrance, the patient goes to the secretariat; once registered, it can wait in an adjoining room. In the hallway, past the red stripe on the ground, overshoes are compulsory. “We really wanted to define a reinforced hygiene zone,” says Sylvie Leblé, head of the service.
In the first part, thirteen bedrooms have been renovated, two of which are doubles. A little further, twelve cocoons were placed. The principle: soundproof alcoves with a large seat and perhaps soon, the TV. Before entering it, an airlock where patients can put on underwear and a bathrobe, like a swimming pool locker room.
“The idea is to decide between the interventions,” she informs. Operations with rapid recoveries such as gastroenterology, ophthalmology or ENT will rather be directed towards the cocoons. The rooms will be dedicated to longer recoveries ”.
Increase the capacity of the outpatient unit
The changes concern both the premises and the organization of the hospital. “We will be able to increase the capacity of the outpatient unit,” says Sylvie Leblé. With 17 beds before the works, the renovated premises will be able to accommodate 25 beds. “That way, you can imagine fifty to sixty people a day,” she projects.
The head of the service insists: not all the equipment has been received, and these new premises can be adapted according to use. Thus, a lounge area, intended for accompanying persons, should also see the light of day.
