The new Escape From New York movie will not be a remake

Film collective Radio Silence recently provided an update on what fans can expect from their new movie Escape from New York film, which serves as a reboot of the John Carpenter classic.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly in a recent interview, the trio were asked what fans could expect from the film. According to Tyler Gillett, the trio are excited to be working on it, even if its development isn’t very advanced at the moment.

“We are very pleased to be working with 20th Century on this,” Gillett said. “We’re developing our own version, and hopefully it’ll be written in the new year, and we’re really starting to lay the groundwork for that. But in the very early stages.

Gillett went on to say that the film was not a remake and compared it to their work on the fifth He shouted film, saying it would be more of a “nod and continuation” of the franchise than anything else.

“Not a remake,” Gillett said. “It’s one of those properties that you can’t [remake], he’s kind of untouchable to us and living in his own stratosphere in terms of how important he is to us and how much we love him. So it will be no different He shoutedI think, a nod and continuation of what we love about these characters and this world.

John Carpenter’s original 1981 classic was set in a future (then 1997) where Manhattan had been transformed into an island-sized maximum security prison. When the President of the United States crashes into the ruined city, an outlaw (played by Kurt Russell) is forced to travel inside to save him.
