Among the shops of the Cité de la Gastronomie, there is one that does not sell anything edible. This is the Gourmet Bookstore, specializing in culinary books. More than a thousand books will be available from May 6, 2022, the opening day of the City of Gastronomy. This is the second boutique of Deborah Dupont-Daguet, who intends to conquer the Côte-d’Oriens.
The success of gastronomic books
Deborah Dupont-Daguet had already opened a first gourmet bookstore in Paris. Following the success of the latter, the Cité de la Gastronomie gave him the opportunity to open a second store, in Dijon this time. She hopes that success will also be there: “It’s an area that works well, especially after the two years that we have just lived, people have started cooking again”.
Among Deborah Dupont-Daguet’s Parisian clients, there are professionals, but also amateur cooks more or less beginners : “we have many parents who come to us for advice when their child leaves home”. To be able to give this advice, the owner surrounds herself with sellers specialized in gastronomy. Six have already been employed at the Dijon site.
A local specialization?
By settling in Côte-d’Or, Deborah Dupont-Daguet wanted to give a local flavor to her selection of works. However, Burgundian culinary literature is not very developed. : “I had to hunt for books that are no longer published, but that I found interesting”she laughs.
Sure, the bookstore will also have an oenology department : “I had a piece of furniture made to measure with boxes of wine”, says the owner. This is the first shelf that customers will see when entering the store, from May 6, 2022.
