On Sunday, October 10th, the population in the Offenbach district will vote for the new district administrator in a runoff election. The incumbent and his deputy face each other.

It is not yet clear who will be the district administrator for the Offenbach district in the next six years. None of the candidates was able to achieve the required majority – more than half of the valid votes – in the election on September 26th, and therefore another election will take place in the Offenbach district. The runoff election on Sunday October 10th will bring the decision.

Then there are no longer three candidates, but only two. Robert Müller, the candidate of the Greens, was eliminated from the race with 22.84 percent. There are also his namesake, district member Carsten Müller (SPD), and the 56-year-old incumbent Oliver Quilling (CDU).

The district council election

265 697 citizens in the Offenbach district are called on Sunday, October 10th, to elect the new district administrator in a runoff election.

The polling stations in the 13 municipalities of the Offenbach district are open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The election notification for the direct election one and a half weeks ago, this also applies to the runoff election. Postal voting documents must be deposited in the mailboxes of the respective town halls by 6 p.m. on Sunday.

The outcome of the election can be seen on the evening of the election at www.kreis-offenbach.de. ann

The Neu-Isenburger Quilling was elected district administrator for the first time in 2009 and has now held the office for two electoral terms. Carsten Müller from Mühlheim is his deputy, is the social affairs officer and treasurer. This is the third time he has competed against Quilling, which is all the more remarkable as the SPD and CDU in the district assembly were always united in a grand coalition during this period.

In contrast to the election six years ago, Quilling did not quite succeed in winning the first round a week and a half ago: At 49.58 percent, he was 0.43 percentage points short of the absolute majority. His opponent Carsten Müller – who, by the way, has worked with him amicably for years – came to 27.58 percent. It is again questionable whether this time it will be enough for the 49-year-old. However, Müller is a person with a positive attitude – and maybe the SPD’s soaring at the federal level will help him.

The Kreis-Greens do not want to make an election recommendation after the departure of their candidate. “For us, none of the two remaining candidates embodies the new beginnings that our group so desperately needs for the socio-ecological turnaround,” says board member Katy Walther.

What is certain, however, is that the turnout will be much lower than it was a week and a half ago, when the district population was allowed to vote on the composition of the Bundestag at the same time as the district council election. On September 26th, 66.84 percent of all eligible voters cast their vote.
