Omikron is already widespread in Winterthur
At the moment, around 25 percent of new infections can be traced back to the Omikron virus variant. After Christmas, Omikron will be the dominant variant, says KSW chief physician Urs Karrer.

The reports from Great Britain did not bode well. Omikron, the new variant of the coronavirus, has spread extremely quickly there in the past few weeks. There was often talk of a “tsunami” and a “wall”. In the meantime, however, the Omikron wave is also piling up in the region. Infectiologist Urs Karrer, chief physician at the Kantonsspital Winterthur, has the latest figures: “In the Zurich and Winterthur area, around 25 percent of the newly diagnosed cases are currently caused by Omikron.” At Omikron, the number of cases is currently doubling every week.
