The new chairman of the CEC is Kamelia Neikova – 2024-05-05 15:33:15

/ world today news/ The former spokeswoman of the commission was currently close to Nikolay Tsonev. The other parties retain their existing members, and the head of the public council – Rositsa Mateva, enters from Manolova’s quota

An attempt to appoint their own head of the Central Election Commission – as they did with the Speaker of the Parliament, is expected from the protest parties today. At 2 p.m., the president called the political forces for consultations on the new commission. And according to the distribution of quotas, GERB will have 4 members in it, and “There is such a people”, DB and “Stand up! Get out! ” – 6 in total.

They have already agreed on a chairman and he will be from ITN, predicted Boyko Borisov yesterday. Otherwise, the resigned prime minister and leader of GERB was categorical: “Naturally, the chairman of the CEC must be broadcast by the first political force. This is what democracy is all about. We are with a maximum of 4 people”.

“I bet BGN 5 that the next chairman of the CEC will be Kamelia Neikova, Deputy Minister of Defense under Nikolay Tsonev and member of the CEC from the BSP. It will be proposed by “There is such a people” and will be supported by the new coalition. If I guessed, then the whole procedure of “discussion and presentation” with President Rumen Radev will be a huge farce”, wrote in the meantime on Facebook the MP from GERB Hristo Gadjev.

Unofficially, in front of “24 Chasa”, two other parties named Neikova as the new boss.

She was the spokesperson of the previous composition of the CEC together with the current head of the commission, Alexander Andreev – then he was also from the BSP quota, and later was elected chairman on the proposal of GERB after the resignation of Stefka Stoeva in August 2020. In the current composition Neikova is not a member of the commission.

The 51-year-old lawyer was Deputy Minister of Defense in the period 2008-2009 under Nikolay Tsonev. Then he got up

alternative”

Another very active lady with experience in the affairs of the commission – the chairwoman of the public council at the CEC, Rositsa Mateva, will certainly enter. She was announced as a candidate by Maya Manolova. A person with experience, respectable, with expertise, a lawyer with a good name, with nearly 30 years of practice, motivated the choice of Manolova. And expressed bewilderment why other parties hide their candidates until the last.

The distribution in the CEC, reduced from 20 to 15 members, takes place according to new rules approved on Monday by presidential decree. He also undertakes the consultations with the parties, to which they will propose leadership and members. The quotas are distributed according to the method of the largest remainder – the so-called Hare-Niemeier system. 4 will be for GERB, 3 for ITN and BSP, 2 each for DPS and “Democratic Bulgaria”, and one for “Stand Up! Get out!”. However, if the parties do not agree on who should head the commission, the head will be chosen by lot.

“If they don’t agree, but they will agree,

and whoever happens to be the chairman, he does. That’s where they brought her. Great electoral legislation – let’s use marbles to determine the head of the CEC”, Borisov was indignant yesterday. He explained that the members of GERB will be elected by the party, but did not specify the names. It is expected that the current representatives of GERB, headed by Chairman Andreev, will retain their seats.

The BSP approved its candidates at a meeting of the Executive Bureau yesterday. Emil Voinov was promoted to deputy head, and Tsvetanka Georgieva and Silvia Stoycheva, all three from the previous commission, to members.

Voinov was the head of the red CEC for the direct election of Cornelia Ninova as leader of the BSP. Before the vote on April 4, he was accused by GERB of complicating the election protocols.

From “Democratic Bulgaria” they chose between 5-6 names. It was not clear until late last night which two were approved.

Yesterday, the DPS also met at a regular meeting. Party members refused to name who they will nominate, but it is expected that these will be the two current members from their quota – CEC secretary Sevinch Cholakova and Erhan Chaushev.

July 11 – the likely date for the elections

Early parliamentary elections will most likely be held on July 11. This date is set as the closest to which all legal deadlines can be met.

Today, President Rumen Radev is waiting in the morning for “Dondukov” 2 BSP, to whom he will hand the third and last mandate to form a cabinet from this National Assembly. They will immediately return it to him, as GERB and “There is such a people” did earlier. Thus, the 45th Parliament will become the first in our recent history that failed to produce a government.

After the BSP returns the mandate, Radev is obliged to appoint an official cabinet. With the same decree, the head of state dissolves the parliament and announces the date of the elections, which must be within two months at the latest. However, there is no specific time limit in the constitution in which he must do so. However, the Central Electoral Commission, which the president is yet to appoint, must prepare a timetable for the elections, and it is for a period of 60 days, i.e. counting starts from the constitution of the new commission. According to the established rules for the election of the new CEC, the candidates must be heard – most likely on Friday, which means that Radev can issue his decree at the earliest that day or announce when the elections will be held on Monday. However, if there is an agreement for the parliament to first vote to close the special court and prosecutor’s office, he will need at least another week to live. There is no such item on the National Assembly’s agenda for today.

Among party members there was also talk of a vote on July 4, but then there is no way to keep the schedule.
