The novelty is lighter than the Bugatti Chiron engine itself and meets the conditions for inclusion in the Japanese “Kei Car” class.

Caterham Seven is generally well known as one of the lightest and most attractive sports cars in the world, which, thanks to its weight of around half a ton, is able to offer incredible experiences behind the wheel with relatively small engines. But now the carmaker has overcome it again.
The newly introduced Seven 170 model boasts a weight of only 440 kilograms, which makes it the lightest model on offer. As colleagues from Carscoops pointed out – at this weight, the car is even 50 kilograms lighter than the W16 engine from Bugatti Chiron itself.

Saving weight went hand in hand with downsizing. The Seven 170 is 105 mm narrower than the second narrowest model on offer. At the same time, this reduction contributed to a saving of 50 kilograms and thus helped Caterham stay in the segment of advantageous “kei cars” on the Japanese market.
After all, Caterham is very popular in Japan and is the only manufacturer that imports kei cars to Japan – it is a local specialty. The famous carmaker is also owned by the Japanese company VT Holdings, which has been an importer of Caterham for the Japanese markets for the last 12 years.
In addition, the power unit is related to the inclusion among kei cars. Under the hood is a supercharged three-cylinder Suzuki with a volume of 660 cc, which offers the highest power of 63 kW (85 hp) and the highest torque of 117 Nm. The engine is connected to a five-speed manual transmission, which sends power to the rear rigid axle. By the way – the designation 170 refers to the power-to-weight ratio of 170 horsepower per tonne.

The Seven 170 should accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in 6.9 seconds and the top speed exceeds 160 km / h. In addition, the car is compatible with Euro 6 emission standards and reportedly produces CO emissions2 109 g / 100 km, which, according to Caterham, makes it more environmentally friendly than some hybrids.
The car will be available in two specifications: the basic Seven 170S will target quieter drivers, offering road chassis setup, 14-inch silver wheels, black leather seats, a Momo leather steering wheel, windshield and a weather protection package.

For more sporty drivers, the 170R version is prepared, which has a chassis tuned to the circuit, self-locking differentials, 14 “black alloy wheels, a more robust protective frame, a carbon dashboard and racing composite seats with four-point belts.
And the prices? The Caterham Seven 170S starts in the UK on a price tag from £ 22,990 (approx. CZK 681,500), but in the form of a kit that the applicant must compile himself. The already assembled model should then start at a price of about 25,000 pounds, ie about 741,300 CZK.
