The Coupe de France has been on hiatus for several weeks, following the announcement of the reconfinement by the President of the Republic on October 28. But yesterday, the FFF made an announcement regarding the new calendar for the continuation of the 2020/2021 edition.

Will the Coupe de France come to an end? This was the question that many clubs have been asking themselves for several weeks and the absence of announcements from the FFF could challenge. But since yesterday, things have cleared up and the clubs can see more clearly. Indeed, as explained by L’Equipe, the 3F decided to postpone the December matches and this announcement upsets the schedule of the most beautiful of the French cups, which was in its 6th round. But now, this 6th round, as well as the 7th and 8th (which will mark the entry into the running of Ligue 2 clubs) will take place in January, if amateur football comes to be able to resume.

32nd finals in February?

It is through a press release yesterday afternoon that the FFF lifted the veil on the new calendar, explaining “Due to the suspension of amateur competitions announced on October 29, the FFF has decided to postpone the outfit of the 8th round and the 32nd of finals of the Coupe de France 2020-2021.The 8th round was scheduled for Sunday, December 13, 2020, with the entry into the running of the twenty Ligue 2 clubs; the 32nd of finals were to be played on Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 January 2021, with the entry into the running of the twenty representatives of Ligue 1. The FFF is working with the regional leagues for the reprogramming in January of the 6th round and of the 7th round (which could not compete on the dates planned) and with the Professional Football League (LFP) for the rescheduling of rounds involving the participation of Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 clubs. ”

The new calendar should thus make it possible to play the 32nd finals in February. If amateur football can resume and while there are still four matches of the 5th round to be played, the 6th should take place on the weekend of 2/3 January then the 7th will take place the following weekend (9-10 January) before the 8th round and the entry into contention of Ligue 2 clubs which should take place around mid-January / end of January. No date has been communicated for this 8th round because it marks the entry into the running of professional second division clubs and matches could take place during the week. But in the event that everything takes place on the scheduled dates, the 32nd of finals, with the appearance of Ligue 1 clubs, should be played in early February. Nothing has yet been 100% recorded, but the path to this new calendar is being made. We will have to wait for the new government announcements to know if amateur football can resume. But if the announcements are positive for amateur football, then the LFP, for its part, could put the matches of the L1 and L2 clubs late in December and thus allow the Coupe de France to continue with the new schedule. above.
