The New Avanza is reportedly using a CVT, what’s the difference with the regular Matic?

Jakarta

Toyota reportedly will launch the latest generation Avanza. The rumor arose after a list of NJKB codes (Value for Selling Motor Vehicles) for new cars from the Toyota and Daihatsu brands was allegedly listed as the new generation Avanza and Xenia.

The code is recorded in the document of the Minister of Home Affairs Regulation (Permendagri) No. 40 of 2021 concerning Basic Calculation of the Imposition of Motor Vehicle Taxes and Motor Vehicle Transfer Fees for 2021. In the attachment to the regulation it is stated that Daihatsu registers the code W100RG for 1,300 cc engines, and W101RG for 1,500 cc capacities. While Toyota has a new code W100RE (1,300 cc engine), and W101RE (1,500 cc engine). Possibly the code leads to the latest generation Avanza and Xenia.

From the attachment of Permendagri No. 40 of 2021, the CVT transmission option is listed on the two car codes. This further strengthens the possibility that the latest Avanza will be equipped with a CVT transmission.

What is CVT transmission? CVT stands for Continuously Variable Transmission. The power transfer mechanism or gearshift ratio on this type of CVT transmission adjusts to engine speed automatically. This transmission work also relies on centrifugal force.

What is the difference between CVT and regular automatic? Reported by the official Auto2000 website, CVT transmissions are more sophisticated than conventional automatic transmissions, although conventional automatic transmissions are still widely relied on in new cars today.

The acceleration transfer process in the CVT transmission results from changes in the diameter of a pair of pulleys, which consist of a drive and a driven pulley that follows the engine speed of the car. The two pulleys are connected by a belt or steel belt. As a result, CVT work is quieter and each acceleration shift is smoother. You could say the CVT transmission has minimal jolt.

Each pulley on the CVT transmission works by being driven by a fluid pump system, this condition makes the engine workload much lighter. Because of these advantages, the CVT transmission is also claimed to have a smoother and more comfortable speed level transfer sensation.

While the conventional automatic transmission uses a systematic torque converter which is useful as a substitute for the clutch device in a manual transmission. Torque converter works by utilizing oil pressure from the valve body which drives the input shaft of the automatic transmission which is useful for driving the car.

Cars that use conventional automatic transmissions currently have a four-speed system. Acceleration options consist of 1, 2, 3, 4, and reverse gear.
