The new Audi Q5 has revolutionary rear lights

Audi has just unveiled the facelift of its Q5 SUV. While most of the changes are expected technical and technological updates, the rear lights are new to the automotive world.

In the SUV market, the battle is raging. No question for Audi to leave its Q5, central element of its range, to be left behind. So here it is brought up to date by adopting the latest aesthetic attributes of its big and small brothers: a more stretched grille in width and reduced height, redesigned lights and shields, and a multitude of details to enhance its look (black chrome, new colors, etc.). The most striking is at the rear, where the lights adopt OLED technology for the first time on a production vehicle. These lights not only allow a customizable light signature according to several defined patterns, but can also attract the attention of a driver arriving too close to the rear once stationary by switching on all of its 18 LED segments if the car approach within 2 meters.

On board, the scroll wheel and its touchpad disappear in favor of a “tablet-style” touchscreen always capable of recognizing handwriting for entering a destination, for example. The new Q5 also has a voice assistant capable of recognizing commands in natural language.

Hybridization for all

On the engine side, little change except the appearance of a new 2.0 TDI with 204 horsepower (called 40 TDI) with double injection of AdBlue (Twindosing) to reduce polluting emissions. Like all the engines in the range now, it uses microhybridization to slightly reduce its consumption and its CO2 emissions. This system makes it possible to cut the engine when decelerating under 22 km / h and to provide a very slight boost on restart. A system that works with a 48V electrical installation on six-cylinder engines which will be added next year. At the top of the range, the SQ5 sports version will also be renewed, as will the plug-in hybrid (55 TFSI e) which is set to gain momentum in sales curves.
