Apple today introduced the new seventh generation iPad mini (2024), which brings improvements in performance and features. The new model is powered by the A17 Pro chip that powered last year’s iPhone 15 Pro series models, and offers a 30% increase in CPU performance and a 25% improvement in graphics performance against the sixth-generation iPhone mini from 2021. This improvement will enable smoother use of demanding applications and games, as well as the running of artificial intelligence tools.
A key new feature is support for Apple Intelligence – a suite of AI tools integrated into the iPadOS 18 system. This function brings a number of new options, including improved tools for writing, generating images or advanced photo editing. As in the case of iPhones, Apple Intelligence is intended only for markets in America and Asia, it will not reach Europe in the foreseeable future.
The iPad mini retains its slim aluminum body and compact 8.3-inch Liquid Retina display (2266 x 1488 pixels) with a brightness of 500 nits. This year’s generation offers better connectivity thanks to Wi-Fi 6E and 5G support in models with cellular connectivity. The USB-C port now offers twice the data transfer speed (up to 10 Gbit/s) compared to the previous generation, which can be useful, for example, when working with large files.
The new iPad mini also comes with support for Apple Pencil Pro. This stylus brings advanced features like pressure and rotation detection, allowing for more intuitive control when drawing or taking notes. iPad mini (2024) kept the 12MP camera on the back and in front above the display.
Apple offers the new iPad mini in four color variants (grey, blue, purple, beige). The minimum storage has moved to 128 GB, but the tablet has not become more expensive between generations, the price starts at CZK 15,500. Those interested can pre-order the new iPad mini today, with official availability set for October 23, 2024.
