Two double albums in 2022: “Return Of The Dream Canteen” will be released just six months after the release of “Unlimited Love”.
The Angels (ebi) – Singer Anthony Kiedis had John Frusciante’s third entry into the Red Hot Chili Peppers at the beginning of the year as “monumentalIn the context of the band’s discography, you can leave it like this: The Peppers released two double albums in just one year. After “Unlimited Love” in April, they released “Return Of The Dream Canteen” just six months later on October 14th , their 13th studio album – and both are double albums – a novelty, as the band otherwise likes to let several years pass between two records.
“We went in search of ourselves as the band we’ve always been. Once we found the flow of sound and vision, we just kept digging. Time stretched like the elastic of oversized underwear , we had no reason to stop writing and rocking. It felt like a dream. When all was said and done, whimsical love for each other and the magic of music had given us more songs than we thought possible. Two double albums, the second as meaningful as the first, or rather vice versa: ‘Return Of The Dream Canteen’ stands for everything we are and everything we have always dreamed of“, one reads, among other things, in a statement on the Peppers’ social media channels.
Bassist Flea also announced the record on stage at the Peppers’ US tour kick-off last Saturday in Denver, Colorado halfway through the set, their first performance since returning from Germany: “I’m enjoying this damn moment“. The Peppers had played the last gig of their European stadium tour in Hamburg on July 12th.
Guitarist Frusciante had more or less promised the record in the run-up to the “Unlimited Love” release last spring: Almost 50 tracks were recorded under the direction of Rick Rubin. “Return Of The Dream Canteen” can be pre-ordered on the Peppers’ homepage in different versions.
