That was no different tonight: after a day of speculating media, Prime Minister Rutte – still resigning – announced that a serious brake on public life will be put on the evening for the next three weeks. And this from next Sunday.
Between 5 pm and 5 am, many sectors will have to close: restaurants, cafes, non-essential shops, cinemas and theatres, museums, amusement parks, fitness rooms and amateur sports. Food stores can stay open until 8 p.m.
The resigning Rutte government is forced to take these measures because the corona figures in the Netherlands are also very bad. There are currently 2,598 patients with corona in Dutch hospitals, 528 of whom are in intensive care services.
The Netherlands has relatively fewer IC beds than Belgium: the Netherlands has 6.7 IC beds per 100,000 inhabitants, compared to 16 in Belgium.
