AMSTERDAM – Dutch health authorities, on Tuesday (4/1) evening said around 190,000 chicken of two farm in the east Netherlands will be exterminated after the virus H5N1 bird flu highly pathogenic was found on one of these farms.
The bird flu outbreak is the second reported to have emerged in the Netherlands this week.
Previously, similar findings were reported in the northern province of Friesland, leading to the culling of around 225,000 chickens in that location.

Bird flu is often carried by flocks of wild birds in the fall and winter.
In recent weeks, the bird flu virus has spread rapidly in Europe and alerted industry after previous outbreaks caused the culling of millions of birds.
