With the first deliveries at the end of last year, a total of 4.5 million doses should now have been delivered, but the counter of the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) stands at 3.6 million doses.
AstraZeneca in particular lagged behind. That company should have delivered 1.5 million doses in the first quarter, but got stuck at about 885,000 doses. Moderna is said to deliver 400,000 doses, according to the ‘indicative supply schedule’, but has delivered nearly 240,000 doses to date.
Pfizer and BioNTech, which delivered the first doses at the end of last year, have delivered 2.5 million doses so far, a fraction less than the 2.6 million doses that should have been received so far.
It is almost impossible to catch up
The figures run up to and including last Sunday. But to catch up, developers would have to deliver nearly as many doses in the last three days of March as in the last three weeks.
The government expects to receive a total of nearly 17 million doses in April, May and June. Pfizer and BioNTech, for example, are expected to deliver 7.8 million doses. The Dutch Janssen should also start supplying, initially three million doses. A fifth vaccine from Novavax may be added. The European regulator, the European Medicines Agency, has yet to assess that vaccine, but the Netherlands has already ordered 600,000 doses for the next three months.
