The Netherlands now monitors the airspace of Belgians | Inland

Since 2017, the Dutch and Belgian Air Force have been responsible in turn for the surveillance of the airspace of the Benelux countries. It is now Belgium’s turn.

But on Tuesday it came out that Belgium is grounding some of its F-16s. Several aircraft have problems with the exhaust on takeoff. The defect does not occur in the Dutch Air Force, an investigation has shown.

The Air Force comes into action if an aircraft enters Benelux airspace without having submitted a flight plan in advance or if the aircraft does not identify itself. Something like that sometimes happens with Russian bombers.

In such cases, the Quick Reaction Alert fighter planes are in the air within minutes. In the worst case, they can be ordered to take down a plane.
