The Netherlands again did excellent business this week on the UEFA coefficient list. Thanks to the European results of Ajax, Feyenoord, PSV and AZ, eighth place is more firmly in hand and we can even look carefully at place seven.
The victories of Ajax and PSV and the draws of Feyenoord and AZ jointly account for 1.2 points. Number nine Belgium, which was passed at the beginning of this month, added 0.8 points.
The gap with number seven Russia was considerably narrowed. After the previous European week, the gap was almost three points and now that is just over two points: 37,882 to 35,800. In addition, the Russians have a lot more points to defend in the next two seasons.
For the first time since 2014, the Netherlands is in the top eight of the coefficient list. Two years ago, our country was even fourteenth due to lesser European results of the clubs.
The rankings are used by UEFA to distribute European tickets, with the European Football Association relying on the total number of points taken in the current and previous four seasons.
One or more Champions League tickets are available for the first ten countries. To be eligible for two direct starting tickets, the Netherlands must be in the top six.
