The Netherlands has done good business on the UEFA coefficient list this week, mainly thanks to the handsome victory of AZ at Napoli. Our country took more points than the competition.
AZ’s victory in Naples yielded 0.4 points for the ranking. Due to the draw of Feyenoord at Dinamo Zagreb, 0.2 points were added. Ajax and PSV lost and took no points.
Even though the gap with number eight Belgium (+0.8 points) became slightly larger, the results of AZ and Feyenoord mean that the Netherlands has a stronger hold on the ninth place on the coefficient list.
The result was number ten Austria (+0.4), number eleven Ukraine (+0.4), number twelve Scotland (+0.5) and number thirteen Turkey, which took no points. A place in the top ten at the end of the season provides a direct Champions League ticket for the Eredivisie champion of 2022.
Eleventh place can also be enough for direct participation in the most important European club tournament, but then the condition is that the defending champion has already qualified through the competition.
The club that takes the Dutch title this season has direct access to the Champions League thanks to the European performances of last season.
