The Netherlands is tightening up the measures and proposes a ‘roadmap’, a kind of epidemic barometer.

The following measures have currently been announced by Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte. They take effect from October 14 at 10 p.m. In the weeks to 27 October, the cabinet will assess what is needed for the period thereafter. Work is being done on a legal framework to make face masks compulsory within and on public transport.
- Restaurants and cafes must close, just like coffee shops. The latter may still work with a pick-up service. Hotels also remain open and may serve food to guests.
- After 8 pm, no alcohol may be sold in shops and you may no longer consume or carry it on the street.
- Maximum 30 people per room, which also applies to theaters and conference centers. An exception is made for some working conditions.
- Groups of friends and other companies may come together with a maximum of four people, inside and outside. ‘Four is four, no discussion. In smaller groups, fewer people can be infected at the same time. ‘ There is an ‘urgent advice’ for three guests at home, maximum one group per day.
- Public in sports remains prohibited, even in professional competitions. Canteens must be closed. Group sports of adult amateurs are no longer allowed, children are still allowed to exercise in groups. Changing rooms and showers will be closed.
- Shops must close after 8 pm, except for food shops. They are no longer allowed to sell alcohol after 20 hours.
- Homework is mandatory unless there is no other option.
- Never go to a country with an orange or red travel advice. These travel advice are there for a reason, ‘says Rutte.
- Face masks are compulsory from the age of 13 in a public indoor space, such as a shop, museum or theater. ‘We are extending that obligation to all education from secondary education onwards. Mouth masks will soon be compulsory in between classes, also in higher education. ‘ All the above about mouth masks are now subject to urgent advice pending the legal framework.
The so-called ‘roadmap’ shows which measures apply in any case and which are recommended from a certain number of positive tests per 100,000 inhabitants per week. The number of admissions to intensive care, the total number of hospital admissions, the R-value and the infections in the residential care centers are also taken into account. An overview of the measures.
