Shortly after the war, our country had 38.4 percent Catholics and 40.6 percent Protestants. The other denominations were good for 4 percent and 17 percent were not religious.
Depillarization
In 2024, the depillarization has had major consequences. This also applies to the Christian parties that currently play a supporting role. The other religious denominations now account for 11.5 percent, of which 5.6 percent are Muslim. The number of Protestants has plummeted from 41 percent to 13.2 percent and Roman Catholics from 39 percent to 18.2 percent.
No ‘official’ faith
As many as 57.2 percent have no ‘official’ faith. These people can, however, believe in their own way. The end is not yet in sight, because many Dutch people forget to deregister from a religious community.
