An icon, a great actor, the ‘real one’, but above all a beautiful person. Bram van der Vlugt, who passed away at the age of 86, is praised by colleagues and the public. “In the more than twenty years that I have seen him in the role of Sinterklaas, he was always masterful”, reacts presenter Dieuwertje Blok of the Sinterklaas journal, who collaborated with Van der Vlugt. “He was a witty man who loved his job. He wanted nothing more than to play, play, play. Play to the end.
Blok was also friends with Van der Vlugt outside of ‘being Sinterklaas’. “I went to almost all of his theater performances. He has also done so much on stage in recent years. He has played wonderful roles.”
The presenter and actress had a special bond with Van der Vlugt. “In 1943 his mother was taken away from him, when he was still living in The Hague as a boy. He was then taken in by a great-aunt of mine. She always spoke of little Bram. That was a kind of bond between us that I knew about it. He only came out with that much later. “
