Musical singer and actress Pia Douwes will receive the Oeuvre Musical Award this year at the Musical Awards gala on April 28. The organization announced this in the television program Jinek† The jury calls Douwes “the Netherlands’ greatest musical star”.
Douwes celebrates its 35th anniversary in theater this year. She played her first role in the musical in the Netherlands Cats† Abroad she made her debut in Vienna in Little Shop of Horrors† Since then, the actress has played in more than fifty productions at home and abroad.
Douwes was featured in Elisabeth, Billy Elliot, Wretched, Sunset Boulevard, Cabaret in Chicago† She has appeared on stage in the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, the United Kingdom, the United States and Russia.

Next season, Douwes will play in the Dutch version of Broadway hit The Prom† She is the frustrated actress Dee Dee Allen, who hopes for one major role in the twilight of her career. In the Netflix film adaptation, Douwes’ role was played by Meryl Streep.
The Oeuvre Musical Award was previously presented to, among others, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Joop van den Ende, Jos Brink, Willem Nijholt, Harry Bannink and Annie MG Schmidt. The prize is not awarded every year.
