The Netherlands’ first Miss World Corine Spier-Rottschäfer passed away

After the Miss World pageant, Rottschäfer had had enough of Miss pageant and turned to modeling. In 1962 she married architect and later politician Edo Spier, with whom she had two children.

No escort agency

Corine Spier-Rottschäfer was a popular model all over the world for years, but her husband didn’t like all those trips abroad, she said in 2013 in Elsevier. “You’re never there, you can’t come up with something else, I was told.”

In 1964 she therefore founded the first professional modeling agency in the Benelux, Corine’s Agency. The company remained a leading agency in the international modeling world for decades. However, the establishment was not without a struggle. “Soon the police were on the doorstep. They thought I was running an escort agency.”

She was also fined for violating the job placement law. She fought the case to the Supreme Court and won. The law was amended and that also paved the way for the establishment of employment agencies in the Netherlands.

Spier-Rottschäfer continued to run the modeling agency until her retirement in 2002.
