There are many beautiful beaches that are within obscenely close distance from the capital. Perhaps the following information will surprise you, but the 5 closest beaches to Sofia are not on the Black Sea, but in Greece and less than four hours away from the office.
The closest beach to Sofia is not Burgas – 383 km away, but Paralia Ofriniu – 291 km away. From Blagoevgrad, Sandanski, Haskovo, Kardjali, Plovdiv, etc. on the other hand, they go to the northern coast of the Aegean Sea directly in slippers. This easy accessibility and proximity explain why recently more Bulgarians visit the White Sea during their vacations.
With 13,676 km of coastline and over 1,000 islands, 227 of which are inhabited, Greece is understandably Europe’s top beach destination (on the continent, only Norway has more sea, and you’d hardly want to melt there).
